GANGTOK, 18 Aug: The 68th Independence Day celebration at the Sub Divisional level was held at VC Ganju Lama Senior Secondary School ground, Ravangla with the participation of different schools and public of the Sub division along with government officials of various departments.
As per a press release, the Minister for Power and Energy and Labour who is also the area MLA, DD Bhutia was present as the chief guest of the function and hoisted the National Flag on the day. This was followed by the March Past by different school contingents and singing of the patriotic song by VCGL School.
The message of the Governor of Sikkim was read out by SDM, Rabong while the message of the Chief Minister of Sikkim was read out by BDO, Rabong.
In his address, the chief guest briefed about the vision of the CM to make Sikkim self-reliant. Toppers of CBSE 2014 in Science, Commerce and Vocational stream was handed over the Dr. Sherab Gyatso Award 2014 with cash prize of Rs. 30,000 in Science stream and Rs.15,000 each in Commerce and Vocational Stream, the release informs.
The program also included different cultural programs by the school students of various schools and Band Display by the School band of VCGL SS School, South Point Academy and Little Scholars Academy.
In the secondary level football final Sangmoo Sec School defeated JNV, Ravangla. DD Bhutia also handed over Rs. 50,000 each to the principals of VCDL SS School and Tingmoo Secondary School for the development of
these schools, it is further added.
