MANGAN, 18 Aug: The 68th Independence Day was celebrated at Gor Secondary School, Dzongu with a cultural programme, finals of the football tournament and Gor Idol 2014 contest.
The programme was attended by president Lum Gor Sangtok GPU, Chung Chung Lepcha as the chief guest. A colourful cultural show was presented by students of Gor and Taryang School. Sporting events for students and parents were also conducted while last year's Gor Idol performed one solo song.
The final match of the women's football tournament was played between Gor school staff and students where the former won by 2-1. The final match of the Independence Day Open football tournament which started from 04 July was also held on the day. Taryang Youth Club emerged as the champions after beating Gwon team 3-0.
The programme concluded with the grand finale of the Gor Idol 2014 contest where the six finalists performed a song each. Passang Lhamu Lepcha was declared the Gor Idol 2014 by a panel of Judges.
