GANGTOK, 22 Aug: Following the recent reported cases of child abuse/sexual assault in the State, Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Deekila Bhutia, convened an urgent meeting with the members of the Commission - Rehana Rai, Yangchen Ladingpa and Nim Choki Bhutia in the Commission’s office on Thursday.
A press release informs that the main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the issue of sexual assault on children and also to frame necessary modalities to address such issues in the State. In this regard, the Commission has proposed to organize a meeting with the stakeholders like police, health, voluntary organizations and HRRD to have collective input to address the issue.
The Commission will apprise the Government with the outcome of the said meeting and "will leave no stone unturned to eradicate such issues in the State", the release states.
Furthermore, the Commission also received five maintenance complaints regarding children which were addressed by the Commission by providing immediate relief to the complainant.
