GANGTOK, 21 Aug: Sexual offences against minors in the state have become a serious cause of concern. Even as the Sikkim State Commission for Protection of Child Rights condemned a recent case through a press statement on Wednesday, another minor was sexually assaulted on the same day.
As per the police, a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by two persons, one of them himself a teenager, on Wednesday evening at Singtam. The victim was returning home from school when she was forcefully dragged by the duo into a vehicle and sexually assaulted. Thereafter, the accused fled from the spot.
The two accused, Shakeel Ahmad [21 yrs] of Muzzafarpur residing at Singtam at present and his younger brother Azad Alam [15 yrs] have been arrested and a case under sections 341, 342, 354 and 34 of the IPC read with section 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. Act, 2012 has been registered at Sadar Police Station. The case is under investigation.
