NSUI condemns fee waiver only for Sikkimese students, wants free education for all

GANGTOK, 19 Aug: National Students Union of India [NSUI], Sikkim, has condemned the State Government’s decision to waive college and school fees only for students having Certificates of Identification [issued to Sikkim Subjects and their descendents].
An NSUI press release alleges that this was an attempt of the state government to “break the unity of college students”.
“The government sees the unity of the college students as a threat and is playing communal politics to drive a wedge in the student community,” NSUI has alleged.
Parents of students who do not belong to Sikkim are providing services in various sectors in the state and it is the responsibility of the state government to educate all without any discrimination, the release states. The Union has demanded that the decision be withdrawn and adds that it is ready to fight for what is right.
