NAMCHI, 19 Aug: District Level Science Seminar was held today at Namchi Girls Senior Secondary school organised by the State Council of Research & Training and Human Resource Development Department. 29 government secondary and senior secondary schools participated in this seminar which was held on the topic “Innovations in Agriculture for Sustainable Future: Prospective & Challenges”.
Deputy Director HRDD (S), DK Rai was present as the chief guest accompanied by the panel of judges comprising of Bhim Lall Dahal [JD Horticulture], Dr. Chewang Norbu Bhutia [SMS-Animal Husbandry KVK, Namthang], Dr. RD Ghatak [SMS-Agronomy KVK, Namthang] and IP Shivakoti [SMS-Economics, KVK, Namthang].
Addressing the students and participants, the chief guest DK Rai said that this seminar is an effort to encourage new innovative ideas and knowledge to help farmers and agricultural practice. He further said that such innovations would help in sustainable farming practices.
He also thanked all the teachers for helping their students and participating in this District Level Science Seminar.
During the programme it was informed that the top three speakers of this science seminar will participate in the state level science seminar to be held at Gangtok in September and the best speaker of the state will be representing Sikkim at the National Level Science Seminar to be held on 11 October 2014 at Bangalore.
Diwas Dahal of Namchi Sr. Sec school was adjudged the best speaker of this district level science seminar while Roshni Sherpa of New Secondary school, Namchi and Tripti Chettri of Namchi Girls Sr. Sec school came in second and third respectively.
The three best speakers of this district level science seminar were also awarded with trophies and all the participating students were provided with certificates. It was also informed that the three best speakers will be representing South district in the state level science seminar.
Also present today were AD HRDD, KK Sharma; Principal NGSS, Archana Gurung; Lecturers of SCERT Rajiv Philip, Satish Chandra Pradhan and resource person SCERT, Jigmee Dorjee Bhutia.
