GANGTOK, 04 June: Power Minister DD Bhutia convened a meeting with senior officials of NHPC (Rangit Stage II, Legship) along with the officials from the Power Department today.
A press release informs that the Minister deliberated on maintaining cordial relations with the public of the area where the project is located, close monitoring of all hydro power project by the state government. He directed the project developer to strictly comply with all the provisions contained in the Memorandum of Understanding.
The Minister also directed them to submit the list of local people employed by them and to ensure that preference is given to local candidates. For all the contract works and other business opportunities preference should be given to locals, he stated. He also assured the state government will take necessary steps in regards with land acquisition, the release informs.
The Minister directed the Corporate Social Responsibility to be more transparent and submit reports and said that the developers should acquire proper clearance from the Forest Dept and Pollution Control. Proper clearance should also be acquired from the concerned authorities for the use of the explosives for the development of the project, he further stated and added that the state’s roads damaged by the developers by the use of heavy vehicles should be maintained by them, it is added.
