GANGTOK, 01 June: Minister in charge of Irrigation & Flood Control, Somnath Poudyal, who also holds the Food Security & Horticulture portfolios, held his first meeting with officers and staff of the Irrigation & Flood Control Department on 30 May.
A press release informs that the department apprised the Minister on the various activities and works so far carried out. Secretary of the department, SK Chettri assured all possible support in implementing the manifesto commitments of the State government as well as the vision of the Minister into reality for the welfare of the people.
The Minister apprised the department of his sincere desire for ethically efficient, accountable and people-centric administration in managing the deliverables of the organization. He laid emphasis on his role as policy maker and his support for authentic, bottom-up work proposals on need basis, the release mentions.
He also comprehended the difficulties of the employees even at the lower levels and stressed that he had the confidence in the authorities of the department to sort them out, judiciously.
Highlighting the mandate given to him by the public, he stated that now he needed the co-operation from the department to excel in public delivery, the release adds.
