Pharma workers suspend protest at Kumrek units

GANGTOK, 01 June: The department of Labour has said that the ongoing dispute between the workers and management of two pharmaceutical companies Alkem and Indechemi situated at Kumrek has been resolved after the department intervened. The workers who had been on a strike since 28 May resumed their duties from Friday afternoon.
In a press release, the Joint Labour Commissioner, DS Kunwar, informs that the employees of the two pharmaceuticals have called off their strike against the management of the two companies.
A team of Labour department officials headed by the Joint Commissioner along with area MLA Gopal Baraily, SDM Rangpo and police administration visited the site to ascertain facts and understand the situation.
The visiting officials convened a table talk with both the employees and management where some of the doubts of the workers were cleared while many other issues were also discussed.
After much deliberation and discussion the management of both the companies were directed to fulfill all the genuine demands of the employees within three weeks time provided that they came under the purview of various labour statutes enforced in the state.

The employees of both the companies were also advised to refrain from taking law into their own hands and report to their duties to which they agreed and the matter was amicably settled.
