Gangtok, 05 June: An orientation programme for nodal officers of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was held in the office of Member Secretary, Sikkim State Council of Science & Technology today.
The programme was organized by Patent Information Centre (PIC), SSCS&T which has opened an IPR cell in eight colleges and universities to create awareness on intellectual property rights.
Additional Director Dr. BC Basistha, who is also the coordinator of the PIC, explained the objective behind opening an IPR cell in colleges and universities.
Secretary, Science & Technology, SK Shilal, in turn, during his interaction with nodal officers, said that Sikkim lacks a scientific temperament and hence urged the Professors to “encourage students so that the embedded intelligence can be taken out”.
The orientation programme was attended by senior Professors like Dr. PK Mitra, Professor & Head of Medical Biotechnology, Sikkim Manipal University, Dr. DR Chettri, Dean & Associate Professor, Sikkim University and the professors of Sikkim Government College, Rhenock College, Sikkim Government College, Tadong, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, Sikkim Government College, Geyzing, Sikkim Government College & Sikkim Government Law College, Burtuk.
The nodal officers interacted with the coordinator and other officials regarding the various issues related to IPR like GI registration, farmers variety right etc. At the end of the programme, Rs. 20,000 each was released to selected colleges and universities to conduct awareness programmes in their respective institutions.
