GANGTOK, 08 Apr [IPR]: A review meeting between East District Administration Officials and State Awareness Observer, Dr. Engam Pame was held today. Dr. Engam Pame visited East District for his second phase visit to take stock of the state’s preparedness for the forthcoming general election in Sikkim.
He had a brief interaction with the DEO East, AK Singh and the Nodal Officers designated for various duties related to the general election. The Observer was briefed on the respective action reports prepared by the SVEEP, MCMC and Help Line and Complaint and Redressal Nodal Officers. The RO presented the latest and comprehensive scenario of the activities of the East District concerning the general election. The RO also informed that the East District has created an exclusive website for the election related matters for the convenience of the general public.
Dr. Pame expressed his satisfaction over the state of preparedness in the District, and expressed his appreciation towards the RO for his cooperation and remarked that the officials in the East District have done well in respect of election preparedness. Highlighting the task of MCMC he said that maximum emphasis should be on paid news and political advertisements by the concerned MCMC to prevent malpractices during the electoral process. He asked the Nodal Officer (SVEEP) to create more awareness amongst the voters through further SVEEP activities and work towards increasing the voting percentage of East Sikkim.
He further added that there is no room for complacency till the election process is over. He also enquired about the number and type of complaints received in the control room and directed the Nodal Officer to take immediate action as and when required. Dr. Pame also inspected the strong room, the control room and the media centre. He said that although it may be his last visit he would certainly keep himself updated on the outcomes of the general election and the percentage of voting in this general election.
He also took a short tour to the training programme of the Polling Officers and postal ballot voting centre at Chintan Bhawan, wherein he was briefed by the ADM, HQ about the training management. Thereafter the Observer visited few web casting polling stations in the District.
