GANGTOK, 07 Apr: Sikkim Democratic Front has accused the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha of slander and circulating inflammatory pamphlets among the public of Gangtok.
SDF election campaign managers of Gangtok constituency filed three complaints against SKM with the Chief Electoral Officer, the Returning Officer of East District, Sector Magistrates and the Superintendent of Police East today, informs a press release issued by SDF campaign publicity in-charge, Gangtok, SP Bhutia.
An FIR against SKM has also been lodged at Sadar Thana today.
It is alleged that the SKM’s Gangtok candidate and other top leaders of the party have been circulating pamphlets with casteist and communal content to misguide members of certain communities. SKM leaders and workers have been further accused of trying to provoke SDF workers through various ways and indulging in anti-social activities.
“Pamphleteering along with distribution of old newspaper clippings being distributed and indulged by the SKM rival candidate and the top leadership who have instructed hooligans to indulge in anti-social activities which are not only against the Election Code of conduct but also have become unruly under the very nose of law and order officials”, the release states.
Another complaint against active Government employees being openly involved in the election campaign for Sikkim Krantikari Morcha in Gangtok constituency has also been lodged by the SDF campaign team.
SDF has alleged that SKM is using slander, pamphleteering and provocation to save face since, the party claims, its candidate for Gangtok, Hishey Lachungpa has garnered huge support from the people of the area ensuring his victory in the coming elections.
The party has requested law and order officials of the capital along with observers and sector magistrates to take appropriate action before any ugly incident transpires.
