NAMCHI, 06 Apr [IPR]: The commissioning and preparation of the EVMs for Parliamentary Constituency meant to be used within the jurisdiction of South District was carried out today in the Control Room of South District Election Office at Namchi Government Senior Secondary School.
During the process of commissioning, 1 EVM was found to be defective under Temi Namphing Constituency which was replaced immediately with the additional EVM kept in the warehouse in the presence of the candidates, representative, election agents of all political parties.
The morning part of the commissioning process was observed by General Observer South District, Dr R Selvaraj and the afternoon process was witnessed by Expenditure Observer, BS Negi.
100% mock poll was conducted on each and every EVM during the preparation and for 5% of EVMs mock poll casting 1000 votes each was carried out in the presence of the candidates, representative, election agents of all political parties.
The Strong Room where the EVMs for Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies have been kept after the commissioning has been sealed in the presence of the candidates, representatives and election agents of all political parties.
Adequate security measures as per the instruction of the ECI has been made for the Strong Room where the EVMs are kept and the Strong Room will be guarded by Parliamentary forces 24 X 7 and fire emergency vehicle is stationed in the premises to avoid any fire incidents. Further 16 CCTV cameras have been installed in different Strong Rooms.
Returning Officer South, Prabhakar Verma informed that the 3rd and final round of training of all the Polling Officials is scheduled to conducted from 07 to 09 April 2014 in South District.
The Postal Ballot papers facilitation centre has been established in DAC conference hall and the casting of Postal Ballot at this centre will begin from Monday at 11 am. All the candidates for Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies have been informed about this facilitation centre for casting Postal Ballot. They are requested to come in person or send their election agent or representative to witness postal ballot casting at 11 am at the above mentioned venue.
