NAMCHI, 09 Apr: Sikkim Democratic Front president Pawan
Chamling today toured through various GPUs of Namthang-Rateypani constituency
in South Sikkim lobbying for support for the SDF candidate Tilu Gurung. Ms.
Gurung was elected from the same constituency in 2009 and is pitted this time
against the SKM president, PS Tamang [Golay]. Namthang-Rateypani is among the
larger constituencies of the State with 13,173 voters [M: 6,639 and F: 6,539].
Stressing that he was confident that the people will reject
the “divisive politics of spite” of the SKM in the coming elections, Mr.
Chamling called on the people of Namthang-Rateypani to complete Mr. Tamang’s
rejection by defeating him from this constituency as well.
Namthang-Rateypani was a surprise pick for Mr. Tamang
because his party had originally announced his candidature for Soreong-Chakung
in West Sikkim and Upper Burtuk in East. The former was dropped and replaced
with Namthang-Rateypani.
During his daylong marathon tour of the constituency, Mr.
Chamling visited various places and interacted with the people as he made brief
stopovers along the route.
He listened to the grievances and the demands of the people
of the constituency and assured to address them in his next tenure in office.
Starting from Upper Perbing, Mr. Chamling concluded his tour
of the constituency at Mamring. He was also accompanied by the party candidate
for the constituency Ms. Gurung.
While addressing the people, Mr Chamling stated that the
party is in need of the people’s support this time because the development
chart etched out by the SDF for Sikkim is being imperiled by detractors.
Stating that the leader of the “goonda” party is contesting from Namthang
Rateypani constituency this time he urged the people not to cast a single vote
for SKM and serve a fitting reply to the party which is using violence as a
campaign tool.
“If Golay wins from here then the souls of the Late NK
Gurung and Late Kunga Sherpa of Soreng will cry over the denial of justice,” he
said. He further quipped that a “convicted” leader in Nar Bahadur Bhandari was
supporting a “chargesheeted” PS Tamang and if voted to power their combination
will not bode well for Sikkim, he alleged.
He asked SDF supporters to maintain peace in the area and
said that anti-social elements are roaming around in the constituency
disturbing the peace and tranquility. He further asked the people to stay calm
and vote for SDF for peace, development and security in the state.
Mr Chamling assured to develop the constituency into a major
tourist hub and assured to fulfill all the pending demands of the area in his
next government.
