GANGTOK, 07 Apr [IPR]: Communication, whether it is person-to-person, by road, or through telephone, fax or email, is vital especially when a significant democratic festival of Election is to take place. More challenges emerge in the event of twin elections. In a bid to attend to some persistent gaps in remote area such as the Chungthang Sub-Division of North Sikkim which is not afflicted by Law & Order problems as yet, the Chief Secretary, accompanied by a few officers took a review at Chungthang today.
SP-North, SDM and SDPO Chungthang, Sector Magistrates and Police officers, together with Sub-Sector Magistrates and those in charge of patrolling participated. Peculiar issues pertaining to Lachen, Lachung, Chungthang and some portion of Dzongu constituency were raised and solutions discussed.
The senior officers of GREF such as D. Prakash, AEE of 107 RCC, and Maj. Mukesh of 86 RCC were also present with full details. They were directed to speed up clearance of debris and boulders and finish minor ongoing works especially between Dikchu and Mangan on the one hand and between Mangan and Toong on the other.
The CS expressed his dismay over late discovery of bad condition of roads in the stretch between Mangan and Toong. He called upon the district administration to immediately identify such potential troublespots elsewhere in the District and take immediate steps to resolve the situation before 10 April.
In the same way, minor problems of BSNL were resolved by discussing the issues, such as, vehicle for movement, question of carriage of Diesel from Mangan to Lachen and Lachung for the generator sets, dislocation of optic fibre cables etc.
Feedback was obtained from BLOs of Lachen, Lachung, Chungthang and Naga Polling Booths. Strict instructions were given to take care of 4 to 5 critical booths of the area both on 11th and 12th April.
Later, the CS visited a polling booth in Chungthang, SDM office and Block office and PHC.
Most of the issues figured in discussion when D. C. North called on the Chief Secretary later in the evening at Mangan. He assured that from his side all suitable steps will be taken in the next few days as per directions issued.
