GANGTOK, 08 Apr [IPR]: Chief Secretary, AK Shrivastava held a meeting with all the District Collectors and SPs today through video conferencing in order to review the progress of election preparedness across the state.
The meeting was attended by MG Kiran [Pr. Secretary/Home], D Anandan [CEO], CC Wangdi [Secretary, LR&DMD], Jasbir Singh [DGP], MS Tuli [DIG/Range], all the four District Collectors, SPs and other election officials.
At the outset, the CEO briefed about the preparedness aspects of the election, the actions taken so far and the actions to be taken in the next few crucial days. The Home Secretary stated that the Chief Secretary has already toured the entire State, met the District and Sub-Divisional Officers, and reviewed the election works at these levels. He also stated that the Law and Order is under control and the District Administration is taking prompt action on any complaint.
The DGP in his remarks stated that the Police Deployment Plan for the Elections is already ready and action would be taken according to the Plan. He expressed his satisfaction over the manner in which the Law and Order issues have been tackled by the District Administration effectively and instructed them to be alert for the next few days, till the elections are conducted peacefully.
The District Collectors and SPs briefed the Chief Secretary on the various aspects of preparation carried out at the district level. They informed the Chief Secretary about the Training of Polling Personnel, Commissioning of EVMs, Preparation of Strong Rooms, Counting Centres, Law and Order arrangements, Postal Ballots, Deployment of Armed Forces, etc.
The Chief Secretary in his address instructed the District Administration to be active, impartial and ensure a level playing field to all the stakeholders in the election. He said that all the District Collectors should be thorough on the Election Laws and Procedures to ensure that nothing goes wrong. He appreciated that 100% Mock Poll of EVMs has been carried out in the presence of the candidates and their representatives.
The Chief Secretary shared his experience of his tour to the Districts and the outlying sub-divisions and expressed his satisfaction over the manner in which the election works have been carried. Nevertheless, he said that any negligence in the coming days in maintenance of law and order would be viewed seriously. He assured full cooperation from the State Administration, Central Government Departments and other Agencies for the effective and smooth conduct of the elections.
