DIKCHU, 13 July: A massive boulder crashed through this 58-wheel trailer and also damaged the NHPC Stage-V damsite welcome gate at Aap Dara Zero Point in Lower Tintek on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, the vehicle was parked and unoccupied at the time and hence no one was hurt. While physical harm may have been avoided, the residents of Aap Dara spent a sleepless night traumatized by slips and slides peeling off all around them. The boulder which matchboxed the 58-wheeler was one of the ingredients of the slides that have been visiting the area. Two Volvo trailers, shipping Teesta Urja loads for Teesta Stage III hydel project, were parked above the NHPC gate on the Dikchu-Singtam highway. Poor road conditions have left these vehicles so parked for the past fortnight. The IRBn personnel on duty at the welcome gate escaped hurt when a minor slide which preceded the larger one alerted them. It may be recalled that an IRBn barrack at around the same spot was pulverized by a landslide last year.
