GANGTOK, 16 July: The Sikkim State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the lathicharge and tear gas shelling on students.
In a press release, the party has contended that it was “collective administrative failure” of the Chamling government which had remained unable to handle students, democratic protests and criticism and let the incident escalate into a law and order problem.
The issue of the students and their legitimate democratic rights should have been dealt with in a humane and compassionate manner, the release adds.
The party further states that it stands by its commitment to stand beside the democratic voices in Sikkim.
