Meeting discusses foundation module for youth empowerment and skill development

GANGTOK, 14 July [PIB]: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Sikkim, in collaboration with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, organized a meeting on “convergence of youth and their engagement” at here today.
Dr K. Jaykumar, Principal Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs, who chaired the meeting, stressed the need for energizing the youth “with a vision of instilling in them confidence, courage and leadership qualities”.
He also explained the proposal to set up a foundation module for youth empowerment and skill training. The objective of the youth module is to build their capabilities by discovering their talents, imparting vocational and professional skills and guiding them for professional development through skill augmentation and competency development.
Dr. Jay Kumar informed that youth participants from all districts will be given options and opportunities to enroll in courses on community leadership and social works in collaboration with academic institutions and Sikkim University.
A large number of youth leaders and volunteers along with the NYK youth coordinators from all the four districts attended the meeting.
CK Dorjee, Director PIB-Gangtok, Nabin Naik, NYK Zonal Director Sikkim, Dr. Nihar Mohanty Incharge STPI and Puran Chhetri, Youth Coordinator NYK Gangtok also addressed the meeting.
