TSOMGO POKHARI SANRAKSHAN SAMITI CONVENES ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Stakeholders agree to ban cup noodles from Tsomgo
GANGTOK, 14 July: The Annual General Meeting of the Tsomgo Pokhri Sanrakshan Samitee was held on 13 July at Chipsu Village which was attended by shopkeepers of the Tsomgo Shopping complex, JN Road Taxi Drivers’ Association, Yak walas’ Association and residents of Tsomgo and Chipsu Village.
DFO (T) East Division of FEWMD, OC 3rd mile check post, Coordinator WWF- India, President, JN Road Taxi Drivers’ Association were also present for the meeting. The Office Secretary, TPSS made a presentation on the activities conducted by the organisation in the past year along with the account statements including clarification on the collection made by TPSS in this financial year, informs a press release.
The AGM then deliberated on the future work to be undertaken by the organisation for management of Tsomgo Lake and its vicinity. Some important decisions taken were regarding expanding the work of TPSS to cover other wetlands in the area for garbage collection.
Other demands of the shopkeeper association and the drivers association were also included into the Annual Lake Conservation Plan being drafted which shall be finalised in the coming days in consultation with other stakeholders. The committee members requested for an early approval of the annual plan from FEWMD for timely implementation of the planned activities, the release mentions.
Following a discussion on the problem of littering brought about by the improper disposal of cup noodles along the highway, the community at Tsomgo decided to ban the sale of cup noodles in the shopping complex at Tsomgo. This was also supported by the shopkeepers at 15th Mile (Kyongnosla) while assurance for strict checking at 3rd Mile Check Post was given by the OC during the meeting.
It was also decided that like last year, the Bhadaurey Poornima festival which falls on 10 August will be observed for revival of this traditional festival. TPSS has appealed to all to participate in this important festival.
