GANGTOK, 16 July: Sikkim Democratic Front has stressed that Sikkimese people should identify the antisocial elements who trying to take political advantage out of the protest of the college students since 14 July. The party states that the State Government fulfilled the demands of the students without any delay.
An SDF press release informs that the government was aware of the ‘clash’ between police and students on 14 July and has already constituted a one-member committee presided by Land Revenue Secretary, CT Wangdi to investigate the incident. The release informs that the committee, by investigating the incident properly, can recommend action against whoever is found guilty. The release further informs that the government will pay for the treatment of injured students and policemen by taking them to hospitals within and outside the state, as required.
The release informs that by respecting the students, a meeting was held which was attended by concerned Ministers, Principals and teachers of different colleges today at HRDD conference hall.
The release states at the meeting, it was noticed that many students were unaware that their demands had already been fulfilled which is when it was felt that irresponsible politicians and antisocial elements have been taking advantage of the situation.
The release alleges that at such a moment, irresponsible and antisocial elements have been instigating students by sending party-workers into student groups. The party has also appreciated the constructive steps of the students by indentifying such elements.
