GANGTOK, 15 July: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha MLAs today met with the Governor requesting his intervention in the ongoing student-police fall out.
The delegation met the Governor at his official residence in Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum requesting that he put an end to what they see as police atrocities on students.
“The voice of the people against injustice and discrimination is being suppressed ruthlessly. The latest incident is the barbaric act of Sikkim Police against the college students. We strongly condemn the act of the police,” said Syari MLA Kunga Nima Lepcha.
Upper Tadong MLA, Timothy Basnet alleged that the police did not follow the prescribed procedure for a lathicharge.
