With Justice Sunil Kumar Sinha’s transfer Sikkim High Court gets full bench

GANGTOK, 11 July: With the transfer of Justice Sunil Kumar Sinha to Sikkim High Court, the High Court here will have its full strength of a three-judge bench. Justice Sinha is scheduled to take oath of office on 14 July as Second Judge of Sikkim High Court.
Justice Sinha, the second senior-most judge of Chhattisgarh High Court, has been transferred to Sikkim by the Supreme Court Collegium.
Born into a family of lawyers on 07 July, 1954 at Ambikapur in Madhya Pradesh, Justice Sinha took his B.Sc degree from government PG College, Ambikapur, in the year 1973. He also has a Master’s degree in Botany from the same college and did his LLB degree in 1980 from Government PG College, Ambikapur.
He was enrolled as an advocate on 03 September 1980 and practiced as an advocate in District & Sessions Court at Ambikapur, under the guidance of his father late SP Sinha, advocate and an eminent lawyer.
He has worked in all the branches in the trial court at Ambikapur from 1980 to 1993 and thereafter shifted to High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur and practiced their till October, 2000. He has practiced in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh and in the state administrative tribunal at Jabalpur and handled many cases of different nature.
After formation of the state of Chhattisgarh in the year 2000, Justice Sinha, shifted to the High Court of Chhattisgarh at Bilaspur in 2000 and practiced in various branches of law. He was appointed as an Additional Advocate General of Chhattisgarh in May, 2003 and worked till he was elevated to High Court Judge in November, 2004.
As a judge of Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Sinha has delivered many decisions of high precedential value including verdicts of complex issues of constitutional law, important civil litigations, and rights of accused under the various criminal laws.
