GANGTOK, 16 July: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha president PS Tamang [Golay] has alleged that instead of resolving the problems of the students peacefully through dialogue, the state government has been using force to suppress the movement of the students for their rights since 14 July.
Condemning and criticizing the police action, Mr Tamang, in a press release issued today, said that the one-man investigation committee headed by the Land Revenue Secretary was only meant to deceive the students. Many such committees have been set up in the past with no results so far, he has added.
The party has demanded that the investigation committee should not be one-man unit, but include representatives from the civil society, parents and guardians should be headed by a Judge and be asked to submit a report within a given timeframe.
The SKM president has also demanded an apology from the HRDD Minister and Home Minister. The party has further threatened to launch a hunger strike if its demands are not fulfilled.
