GANGTOK, 11 July: Nehru Yuva Kendra, East Sikkim in coordination with Sungava Samajik Sewa Sanstha celebrated Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s birth anniversary on 06 July, 2014 at the Gram Prashasanik Kendra of Namcheybong Gram Panchayat.
The chief guest on the occasion was Nabin Kumar Naik [Zonal Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sikkim] and the guest of honour was Puran Chetri [District Youth Coordinator] and Dr. NP Das [AYUSH Cell, STNM Hospital], informs a press release.
The programme was attended by members of Nagbeli Pragati Sangh, Surya Dev. Sangh, Jan Sewa Samity, Sikkim Himalayan Green Group and Creative SHG and Uttam Chhetri [NYK National Youth Awardee].
Mr Chetri spoke about the life and contribution of Syama Pd. Mukherjee towards social and religious development along with his political ideologies for the advancement of the country. Mr Naik talked about the role and responsibility of youth in community development and youth and youth club empowerment schemes of NYK while Mr Das highlighted the need to curb alcoholism and drug abuse.
During the programme five clubs were presented a football each as part of the games promotion initiative by NYK while the plantation conducted by Sikkim Himalayan Green Group was also inspected, the release adds.
