GANGTOK, 29 June: Paryavaran Mahotsav 2014 was celebrated at the Office of the Assistant Engineer (Mech.), Roads & Bridges Department, Lumsey, Tadong on 27 and 28 June.
A press release informs that on the first day of the celebration, officials along with the staff of Gangtok
Mechanical Subdivision carried out various activities like cleaning of the surrounding jhoras and channels, beautification and weeding at the garden located at the office premises and landscaping.
Weeding around the saplings planted last year and marking and recording of sapling details was also carried out.
Awareness address on Paryavaran Mahotsav 2014 and on topics like waste management and carbon footprints was given to staff and public by Lawrence Lepcha, Assistant Engineer (Mech.), followed by interaction session.

The second day had Principal Chief Engineer (M/S), KB Gurung as the chief guest while other officials and retired officers of SMES also joined a plantation drive around the campus. Saplings were also planted in memory of loved ones in the garden.
On the day, a hand written chart paper was used as a banner instead of a flex printing banner to carry the message of environment conservation.
The concluding day also marked the reunion of High Ranking Officers, retired High Level officials, retired staff of the subdivisions, local public & staff and the Gangtok Mechanical Subdivision.
