Gangtok, 03 July [IPR]: A joint Welcome & Farewell programme was held at Sikkim Assembly Secretariat, during which the staff extended warm greetings to the new Speaker, KN Rai, and Deputy Speaker Sonam Gyatso Lepcha even as they bid heartfelt good-bye to former Speaker KT Gyaltsen and Deputy Speaker MB Dahal at the banquet hall on Tuesday.
Speaking at the programme, Speaker Mr. KN Rai thanked his predecessor for his commendable role in raising the dignity and decorum of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and further committed to preserve its level of achievement in future.
He also highlighted the importance of responsibility of every citizen in a democratic environment.
Meanwhile, expressing gratitude towards the Chief Minister and the people for giving him an opportunity to serve the State, the former Speaker highlighted that the Assembly was the Temple of Democracy. It is a system of government where people are supreme, he stressed.
The programme was also addressed by former Deputy Speaker Mr. Dahal.
Secretary D. Rinchen assured all cooperation to the new Speaker and stated the last term was remarkable, result-oriented and progressive.
