UD&HD Minister tours North Sikkim, inspects projects

MANGAN, 24 July: UD&HD Minister, NK Subba, accompanied by Deputy Speaker, Dzongu MLA Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, visited North Sikkim today to take stock of under construction infrastructure of the department in the district.
The Minister was also accompanied by UD&HD officials led by PCE GT Bhutia and Chief Engineer BS Gautam, along with T Gyamtso, Special Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies Deptt., DC TN Kazi, SP RN Yadav and other officials.
The team visited the crematorium site at Pentok where the Mangan Nagar Panchayat president Karma Jigdel Bhutia and councilors requested the development works like beautification and fencing. The Minister directed the department officials prepare and propose a project accordingly.
The Minister also inspected the area near District Administrative Centre for the construction of a car park [between Zilla Bhawan and DAC]. The Deputy Speaker underlined the increasing parking problem being faced in area.
The site for the upcoming Legal Metrology Lab cum District Forum Office of Consumer under the Food & Civil Supplies Department at Pentok was also inspected.
The team also inspected the slide at Lower Mangan Bazar where the UDHD officials were advised to take up survey by an expert and propose a permanent treatment of the slide zone.
The team further inspected the MNP’s Multi Purpose Building and the under construction Lall Market Building where the Minister appreciated the quality of work being undertaken. The Minister was also shown a demonstration of the Organic Waste converter machine installed by the Mangan Nagar Panchayat.
Mr. Subba also inspected the buffer stock of essential commodities maintained at the FCS Godown at Mangan and directed the concerned department to keep adequate stock for emergencies.
The team also visited the Passingdang in Upper Dzongu North Sikkim where the people demanded a mini urban market. The panchayat and public submitted a demand petition seeking construction of a shopping complex, car parking, street lights etc. The Minister advised the public to develop the mini market in a traditional style and urged them to provide the land for the project. The Deputy Speaker, being the area MLA as well, highlighted that this was a long pending demand of the people and informed that Passingdang being the main village of Upper Dzongu should be developed as a traditional heritage for the promotion of tourism.
The team further visited Gnon in Lower Dzongu where the public and panchayat demanded the construction of a shopping shed. Earlier in the morning, the Minister also visited Pheedang Lower Dzongu and Rang-Rang villages.
