GANGTOK, 24 July: The plan for the dome proposed to be constructed over the Statue of Unity here above MG Marg has been finalized, informed Thukchuk Lachungpa while revealing a model of the dome at a press conference held today. Mr. Lachungpa heads the Pang Lhabsol Celebration Committee which is constructing the dome.
The dome is to be built on an area of 42x42x32 feet and the state government has already approved and sanctioned Rs 98 lakh for it. Mr. Lachungpa informed that Rs 30 lakh of the total amount has been released to the committee as of now.
The Dome will be 50 feet high and will have a 22 feet high gate, a meditation centre, a puja centre with engravings on brass telling the story behind the Statue of Unity.
Last year, during the 20th Pang Lhabsol celebration, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, while addressing the function, had sanctioned Rs. 98 lakh for the dome project and had urged the Pang Lhabsol Celebration Committee to undertake the construction.
Mr Lachungpa informed that the dome will reflect Sikkimese tradition and culture and has appealed to the public to share their views and suggestions.
