Golay
accuses police of bias
GANGTOK, 03
Apr: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] president, PS Tamang [Golay] today accused
the Sikkim Democratic Front party of disturbing the law and order situation in
the state and the Police administration of failing to take action.
Addressing a
public meeting at Ranipool, Mr. Tamang warned that his party would not tolerate
any acts of violence against its workers and went on to contend that despite
cooperating with the administration, if such incidents still continued, the
party was even ready to sacrifice the coming elections for the same.
“We are
ready to fight against unjust police action. Some policemen are working like SDF
party workers and we will not tolerate such actions henceforth,” said Mr.
Tamang today.
He
questioned the lack of police action against SDF workers and accused the state
police of shielding SDF workers. He also urged the Election Commission to take
cognizance of the allegations against SDF Namcheybung candidate BB Rai of
beating up SKM workers this afternoon at Saurani and the fact that no action
has been taken by the police so far.
Accusing SDF
candidate for Shyari constituency, KT Gyaltsen of assaulting SKM workers on
Wednesday he stated that no action has been taken by the police is this case as
well. Similarly, he alleged that the police have not taken any action on the
alleged attack on his motorcade at Namthang in South Sikkim a few days ago.
“SKM party
believes in non-violence, so we have respected and maintained the law and order
situation in the state. If we retaliate against the ruling party’s goondaism,
the law and order situation would be worse,” said Mr Tamang.
He alleged
that SDF leaders are frustrated since they are losing ground among the people
and is hence resorting to such acts of violence. This, he said, proves beyond
doubt that SDF leaders and workers all over Sikkim are frustrated.
He called upon
the Director General of Police to take immediate action against the SDF party
candidates for beating up the public failing which the SKM party would take its
own course of action.
The meeting
which was also addressed by the SKM Lok Sabha candidate, TN Dhakal.
