NAMCHI, 30 Mar: Namchi Public School [NPS] has won the ARCEIS ‘CD’ division Basketball Tournament, 2014 in both the boys and girls categories. This year’s tournament was organized by Namchi Public School.
A press release informs that the tournament was participated by Namchi Public School, Namchi, St. Xavier’s School, Pakyong, St. Joseph’s School, Rhenock, St. Joseph’s School, Martam, Don Bosco School, Malbasey and St. Mary’s Convent School, Gyalshing.
The chief guest, Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Rhenock, Fr. Lawrence Monteiro gave away the prizes to the winners, runners-up and third placed teams.
In the finals, the boys’ team defeated St. Xavier’s School and the girls’ team defeated St. Joseph’s School, Martam. For the third place, St. Joseph’s School, Martam, defeated St. Joseph’s School, Rhenock in the Boys’ category while in the Girls’ category, St. Xavier’s School, Pakyong, defeated Don Bosco School, Malbasey, the release informs.
Gagan Rai and Ranjana Pradhan of NPS bagged the Most Valuable Player title in both the categories. Fr. David Y. Rai, of St. Xavier’s School gave away the trophies to them.
In the inaugural function, Principal of NPS, Rev. Fr. George A. D’Souza welcomed the teams and all participants to the tournament and emphasized the importance of sportsmanship. He said that such tournaments provide a platform to the youngsters to make new friends, see new places and also showcase their talents to wider audience and overall make Sikkim attain greater glory in the sporting world.
