IMPCC meeting stresses on the need to create voter awareness in Sikkim

GANGTOK, 31 Mar [PIB]: A meeting of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) was held in Gangtok today. The meeting, presided by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Animal Husbandry Department, Sanoj Kumar Jha, was attended by senior officials of the various central government offices including ICAR, SSB, Ayurveda Regional Research Institute, media units under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, officials of the state IPR & Animal Husbandry department, Sikkim State Aids Control Society and NERAMAC. Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sikkim under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports hosted the meeting.
Addressing the IMPCC meeting Secretary, Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Sikkim, Sanoj Kumar Jha stressed on the need for holding such coordination meetings at regular interval to ensure better coordination among central and state government departments and to launch joint publicity on common themes to create public awareness.
Chairman of the IMPCC and Director, PIB Gangtok, C.K.Dorjee highlighted the objectives of the media coordination committee and urged the print and electronic media, particularly AIR, Doordarshan and Field Publicity units to mount maximum publicity on creating voter awareness in the state. He said such efforts would supplement Election Department’s effort on Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign & ensure that people in large number come out to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections. He mentioned about the press statements being issued by the PIB to the local media on various election related subjects to educate & inform the voters about the facts and figures relating to elections.
Zonal Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Nabin Kumar Naik highlighted the efforts made by his organization to involve the rural youths in nation building activities and to develop such skills and values in them so that they become responsible and productive citizens. He said the NYK organized a five-day long youth orientation camp in Gangtok recently in which youths from all four districts attended. He the NYK held a rally during the workshop in the state capital to create voter awareness.

Representatives of different offices and organizations who attended the meeting reviewed the activities and publicity campaign since the last IMPCC meeting.
