GANGTOK, 02 Apr: The Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] is going to poll in Sikkim on a two-point agenda; to have sizeable representation in the State Assembly and to win the Parliamentary election. The party has fielded 14 candidates including the Lok Sabha candidate and its election campaign is on full swing.
Sikkim State In-charge, Dr D Goswami said today that the party held a meeting with all the candidates today regarding preparations for the coming elections. “We have some very good candidates who could make a mark in this election. We will be conducting door-to-door campaign, street-corner meetings [nukkad sabha] and will distribute brochures of the party and its candidates,” he informed.
Dr Goswami further informed that the party’s candidate for Dzongu in North Sikkim has withdrawn his candidature without consulting the party. Now the party has 07 candidates in East and 06 in West district.
“There is anger against the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre as the government has been a non performing government for the last 10 years. Corruption, inability to control inflation or eradicate poverty and create employment opportunities for the young generation of the country are some of the failures of Congress at the centre”, he stated.
The UPA government has been a complete failure and now people are asking for change, he added.
“This time we want to get 272 plus seats in the Parliament and taking this into consideration we have fielded a strong MP candidate from Sikkim in the form of NB Khatiwada and we are confident that he will win. We hope that the people of Sikkim will vote for Modi and the BJP for a change”, he said and added that BJP will play an important role in the coming elections in Sikkim. This is not an ordinary election, this election will change the direction and condition of the country, he added.
“When BJP is going to come to power in the center and form the government then why vote for a regional party candidate, if people want change then they should vote for the BJP,” said Dr. Goswami and added that parties who want to support Modi at the centre should ‘retire’ their MP candidates and extend full support to the BJP Lok Sabha candidate in Sikkim.
Also present for the media briefing were Palden Wangchuk [president, BJP Sikkim], GD Agarwal [general secretary, BJP] and NG Dorji [the Gangtok BJP candidate].
