GANGTOK, 03 Apr [PIB]: A review meeting with the State
Awareness Observer and district administration of North district was held at
the conference hall of the District Administration Centre today.
The meeting was especially called to interact with the State
Awareness Observer Dr. Engam Pame who had come to North District to inspect
overall progress and activities related to the forthcoming General Elections
2014.
The meeting was attended by all the respective nodal
officers, sector magistrate and booth level officers designated for various
elections related activities.
In his brief address during his second phase visit, Dr. Pame
expressed satisfaction with the state of preparedness in the district. However,
he informed that he will continue his observation into areas like SVEEP
preparedness in the District, working of Media Monitoring and Media
Certification (MCMC) and mechanism for checking paid news cases and mechanism
for positive and productive communication with the public through media in the
run up for election.
Dr. Pame further emphasized that proper vigilance be
maintained on paid news should be given by the concerned MCMC to prevent serious
electoral malpractices.
“I am here as an interface with the election machinery in
the district and electors to ensure that adequate steps have been taken up to
provide information and voter friendly facilities to the people so that people
can participate in the electoral process more keenly and confidently,” said Dr.
Pame.
Later on, Dr. Pame accompanied by ADC, North, inspected
different set ups made for the election related activities inside the DAC
building and then proceeded for field inspection where he visited polling
booths set up in various locations in the district.
