Traffic violation leads to ‘drug bust’

GANGTOK, 01 Dec: Personnel at the Tadong police outpost apprehended one person on charges of possession of substances of abuse last night.

This took place when the I/C, Chalan Singh Tamang, intercepted a scooter on 30 November with three persons – higher than the legal capacity - on board. Apart from that, all three were without protective helmets.
When the main rider, Bal Bahadur Chettri, failed to even produce documents for the vehicle, Ramesh Chettri, one of the pillion riders, threw away a packet into the nearby bushes. This packet was recovered and found to contain 42 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon, a much-abused prescription drug. A few capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were also found in the possession of the driver. In the process, all three riders were arrested and booked under the Sikkim Anti Drugs Act.
