Lum/Gor/Sangtok GPU convenes gram sabha


MANGAN, 30 Nov: The Gram Sabha for Lum/Gor/Sangtok GPU of Lower Dzongu was held here at the Gram Prasashan Kendra at Gor in Lower Dzongu on 29 November. The Gram Sabha was presided over by Panchayat President of the GPU, Chungchung Lepcha and was attended by BDO Passingdang, Jigmee Bhutia, Zilla member, Chedup Lepcha, Panchayat of respective wards, Field Facilitator, vigilance committee, ward level and block level committees, Headmasters of feeder schools, ASHA & Aganwadi workers, Panchayat Education Assistants (PEA), representatives of line departments and the general public.

Panchayat Secretary, Tshering Gyatso Lepcha highlighted about the Gram Sabha and informed that the monthly report of the Aganwadi workers, health, schools, ICDS should be submitted to the BDO office every month.
He urged the vigilance committee to work in coordination with each other and further highlighted that public work should be undertaken using the facility of a single window system at the Gram Prasashan Kendra. The Sabha also deliberated on community development in different wards on the issue of midday meal.
The BDO Passingdang highlighted that people should be informed about the Gram Sabha and added that the quorum of the Gram Sabha should be at least 30% of the total population of the GPU.
He informed about the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF), a centrally funded Rural Development programme and also urged all the Panchayat members to update the beneficiaries list of old age pension.
The Zilla member, Chedup Lepcha informed about the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension of Rs. 600 for widows aged between 40 to 59 years and Indira Gandhi National Disability Scheme of Rs. 600 monthly for the disabled aged between 18 to 59 years. He further informed about the National Family Benefit Scheme which is a one time scheme of Rs. 10,000.
Likewise, the Field Facilitator, Tenzing Lepcha informed about the BRGF and Village Development Action Plan. The Sabha was also addressed by the representative of the Veterinary Department. An open discussion was held during the Sabha where the people placed their suggestions and advice to the house.
The headmasters of the schools tabled their demands related to the development of the school on issues like fencing, up-gradation of play ground, shortage of teachers, repairing of school buildings, construction of HM quarter, and timely disbursement of payment for midday meal.
Similarly, the ASHA and Aganwadi workers also tabled their suggestions and demands to the house. The Sabha finally decided on the inclusion of the schemes to be undertaken in the respective wards and concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the Panchayat president.
