PYKKA Sports concludes at Namchi

NAMCHI, 28 Nov: The District Level Rural PYKKA (Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan) Sports Competition 2011-2012 which had started on 25 November in the South District concluded at the Bhaichung Stadium Namchi today.
The competition was organized by District Level Implementing Agency (PYKKA Committee) and sponsored by Ministry of Sports, Mission Directorate PYKKA, Government of India and Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim. The competition included athletics, archery, boxing, badminton, football, kho-kho, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and wushu.
The competition for 23 blocks under various Zilla Panchayat Units of South District concluded today wherein area MLA, Binod Rai was the chief guest. Starting from 25 Nov, the competition was held in different disciplines at various playgrounds in-and-around the district which saw participation from budding talents of the district.
Most of the participants were students from rural areas with only a few from urban areas. The selected participants and winners in various disciplines at the District Level will get an opportunity to participate in the State Level competition and if selected at the State Level, they will go on to participate at the National Level.
The Joint Director, Sports South, Kamal Chettri in his address informed the participants about PYKKA and its advantages. He also encouraged and urged them to do well in their respective disciplines.
While the chief guest, area MLA, Binod Rai in his address gave a brief description of PYKKA and termed it as a great opportunity for upcoming talents in the field of sports, especially for those in rural areas. Speaking to the students, he said that sport is an integral part of education and urged them to take advantage of the positive changes that have taken place over the years. A wushu demonstration also took place and the final day of PYKKA concluded with the prize distribution.
