Gnathang ZPU lifts East district PYKKA competition

GANGTOK, 27 Nov: Gnathang ZPU lifted the Overall Championship trophy of the district-level PYKKA Competition of East Sikkim organized by the East District PYKKA Committee here.
West Pendam was the first runners-up followed by Samlik-Namli-Marchak as the second runners-up in the competition. A total of 1892 athletes participated in the district-level competition.
Now, the winning teams and athletes of the district level competition will represent the district in the state-level PYKKA Competition scheduled to be held next month.
The district-level competition was conducted in ten different disciplines at different venues in-and-around Gangtok from 17 to 27 November.
Athletics, Kho-Kho and Volleyball was conducted at Brihaspati Parsai Senior Secondary School playground, while Badminton, Football, Taekwondo and Table Tennis were carried out at Paljor Stadium.
Likewise, the organizers conducted Boxing at Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Archery at Guards Ground and Wushu at the White Hall Complex.
Earlier, the competitions were held at block-level in the East district, which witnessed a strong participation of 7409 athletes in ten disciplines.
The prize distribution ceremony of the district-level competition was also held today at Paljor Stadium, which had the Zilla Adhyaksha [East], Bimal Dawari, as the chief guest, accompanied by Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary, Karma P Bhutia.
The main highlight of the final day of the competition was the final match of girl’s and boy’s football. In the girl’s football final, Samlik-Namli-Marchak ZPU defeated Sudunglakha ZPU 3-1, while West Pendam ZPU beat Namcheybong ZPU in the boy’s football.
The winners were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.
