NAMCHI, 28 Nov: The AHLSF&VSD, South distributed a total of 10 milching cows to farmers of South District under the General category of beneficiaries today.
Namchi-Singithang MLA, Binod Rai was present as the chief guest of the programme where he handed over the cows to the beneficiaries chosen by way of a lottery system. The programme was also attended by Joint Director AH, LF $ VS (S), Dr. DP Pradhan, Deputy Directors, Dr. Mala and Dr. Manjyoti Rai, and the Zilla Panchayats members.
Delivering the welcome address, Joint Director AH, LF & VS (S), DP Pradhan said that government has opened wide opportunities to help progressive farmers and this distribution of milch cows under the government’s Dairy mission, which enables Swarozgari Yojana of the government and also supports progressive farmers in generating regular income and earning a livelihood by rearing these milching cows.
He also informed the beneficiaries about the technical knowledge and rearing this Jersey cross breed. He also urged all beneficiaries to make proper use of these benefits which are meant to generate income for the long term.
Addressing the programme, MLA Namchi Singithang, Binod Rai said that the State government had launched Dairy Mission and Poultry Mission in Sikkim in order to help the rural populace generate income and many villagers were benefitting with these schemes. This high yielding breed needs proper care and attention and extra labor to gain profit, he added.
The programme was conducted by Deputy Director, Dr. Mala who also trained the beneficiaries on the technical knowledge of rearing cows.
