One caught with explosives in Rangpo


GANGTOK, 01 Dec: The Rangpo police today arrested one person on charges of possessing explosive substances. It has been a while since the police has apprehended or charged anyone with possession of such substances.
Sunil Sherpa, a resident of Rangpo, was arrested by the Rangpo police today when he was found in possession of detonators and gelatin sticks [the triggering device and dynamites], both materials normally used either by road construction companies or hydel project developers.
A raid of his quarters at Goskhan, Rangpo, led to the recovery of seven gelatine sticks and another 8 detonators.
Sunil Sherpa was produced before the Magistrate today and was remanded to policy custody to facilitate further investigation and interrogation.
Rangpo police officials inform that Sunil Sherpa is not employed with any particular agency or company. The police are in the process of ascertaining his antecedents as well as the purpose with which Sunil Sherpa was keeping such materials and from where he acquired them.
