GANGTOK, 01 Dec: Travel Agents Association of Sikkim [TAAS] has announced plans to host ‘Sikkim Snow Fest 2012’ from 28 January to 27 February 2012.
TAAS president, Lukendra Rasaily, mentioned that this was a “recovery mission” for the tourism sector following the setback of the 18 September Earthquake which has severely affected the tourism industry here.
“It is an exercise to recover the loss that Sikkim’s tourism industry suffered in October and November and has the full support of the State government and various NGOs and organizations,” he informed.
He also announced that this month-long festival will now be organized every year.
The festival will include special events like mountain biking, skiing, paragliding, trekking, exhibitions and lots of other tourism related activities by the people of different areas enabling them to earn through this festival.
Mr Rasaily mentioned that the TAAS will play an active role in this “mission” which aims at attracting large number of tourists in the month of February so that all tourism stakeholders in the state can benefit.
