GANGTOK, 24 April: The 22nd Annual Conference of the North East Chapter of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologist organized by the Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital, was inaugurated here on Saturday by the Minister, Human Resource Development Department, NK Pradhan.
Addressing the conference, the Minister said that in an era of technological advancements, the up-gradation in the health sector too has become a necessity and commented that he had full faith that such orientation programmes will bring in ideas from professionals and experts to deliver a better and healthier society.
He added that the State Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has engaged in numerous initiatives, namely the CATCH Programme for the purpose of making the state a disease free state by 2015. This initiative undertaken by the State Government is a historic programme and a role-model for other states in the health sector, stated the HRDD Minister.
He also appreciated the initiative undertaken by the Department of Pathology and Microbiology, STNM Hospital in organizing such an event which shall bear fruitful results in the health sector.
Dr. BD Baruah made a brief presentation on Cancer in India with focus on North- East and Cancer Informatics Platform, followed by addresses by Dr. Nimain Charan Parijia [president, Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists] and Dr. K Bhandari, Director General of Health Services.
The programme also featured the release of a souvenir by the chief guest.
