GANGTOK, 24 April: “North Eastern Rockers (NER)”, the only national rock music fest-cum-competition hosted in Sikkim, is back after nearly three years. This year’s edition has 12 top rock acts participating from New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Darjeeling and Sikkim, informs a press release.
North Eastern Rockers, an event put together by “The Alpine Attitude”, an event-management company based in Sikkim, has shortlisted 12 rock bands based on their demos. They are: ‘What Escapes Me’ – Kolkata, ‘Da Primitive Future’ – Darjeeling, ‘Future History’ – Gangtok, ‘Devoid of Dreams’ – Guwahati, ‘Cynical Recess’ – Kolkata, ‘Burnout Syndrome’ – Kolkata, ‘Psychotic Suicide’ – Namchi, ‘Purple Asparagus’ – Kolkata, ‘Sinister Violence’ – Darjeeling, ‘The Mangalz’ - New Delhi, ‘Circle's End’ – Darjeeling and ‘Dark Murder Scheme’ – Darjeeling.
The fest is scheduled to be held at the Paljor Stadium Gymnasium Hall from 14 to 16 May. On the first and second days, six bands each will perform and the finals will see the top four bands competing for the title, the release informs.
In 2008, NER was organized at a north-east level and entries were invited only from the north-east region and West Bengal.
This year the competition has gone national carrying cash prizes of Rs. One lakh to the winner and Rs. 30,000 to the runners-up.
Still Waters, will be headlining the festival with a performance on the final day. The entry passes to the fest have been fixed at Rs. 100 and the combo ticket for both days can be bought for Rs. 200, the release further informs.
The event has been supported by Sikkim State AIDS Control Society, Dzegna Automibles (TATA Motors), GIRLFRIENDS (Fashion wear/Clothes), Career Guideline, KAALLOS (Beauty Salon), Aptech Computer Education, Ricki’s Rest. & Bar and many more.
