MANGAN, 24 April: The valedictory function of a 3-day basic training on “fish culture technology under running water fish culture programme” was held here at the Zilla Bhawan on Saturday. The training was organized by the Directorate of Fisheries and the valedictory function had DC North, TN Kazi, as chief guest accompanied by DK Pradhan, Additional Director, Fisheries, IP Chettri Jt. Director, RP Sharma Dy. Director, N Dhakal, Asst. Director, BD Sharma, Research Asstt., Lobzang Tamang and Namgay Bhutia, Range Officers.
During the programme, Tenzing Gyaltsen Lachungpa from Lachung shared his experience of how he had benefited from trout farming which has become a good source of income for his family.
Also on the day, 75 beneficiaries from North district were extended the scheme for fish farming with a grant of Rs. 40,000 as first installment handed over to 20 farmers selected for trout farming and a grant of Rs. 15,000 awarded to 55 beneficiaries for carp fish farming. They will be provided the fish after completion of the ponds.
The function had started with a welcome address by the Joint Director, Mr. Chettri, followed by brief report on ongoing schemes by Deputy Director Mr. Sharma who highlighted that fish farming was not only easier, but also more beneficial and sustainable for small land holdings.
Similarly, Additional Director, Fisheries, Mr. Pradhan, informed that a total of 406 beneficiaries from four districts will be covered by the fish farming scheme, out of whom 106 will be extended the trout farming option while the remaining 300 will be offered carp fish farming.
