Public holiday declared for Wednesday to mark Sai Baba’s funeral


GANGTOK, 26 April: A public holiday has been declared in Sikkim for 27 April, Wednesday, as a mark of respect for Sri Sathya Sai Baba whose burial is scheduled for Wednesday.
A government notification issued today by the Department of Home explains, “In order to facilitate devotees to offer their prayers to the divine soul of Sri Satya Sai Baba on the date of burial of His divine body at Puttaparthy in Prasanthi Nilayam, the State Government is hereby pleased to declare 27 April, 2011 as a public holiday throughout the state of Sikkim.”
The holiday has been notified in exercise of the powers conferred by Explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 (26 of 1881).
