GANGTOK, 28 May: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today took oath as member of Sikkim Legislative Assembly for a record seventh consecutive time. He has been an MLA since 1984. In his vote of thanks, he assured the house that being the senior-most member of the house he would guide the house in proper manner in the interest of the public without any bias.
In his address, the Chief Minister said that his party has been voted to office for the fifth term and peace, security and development are his top priorities in this term. He assured to do everything possible to transform Sikkim into the best state of the country.
He urged all the legislators to respect the mandate given by the public of Sikkim and work towards preserving peaceful and tranquil environment of the state which is ushering the state towards the path of prosperity.
“My government will do its best to promote and protect its people irrespective of their allegiance to any party and will join hands with the opposition to work for the prosperity of the state,” he stated. He also expressed hope that the opposition will play a constructive role in the interest of the state and help fulfill the people’s hopes and aspirations.
The CM stressed that elections are over and with it should also end the blame-game and that it was now the duty of the public representatives to deliver on responsibilities cast upon them for welfare of the public at large. He also called upon the members of the legislative assembly from both the ruling and opposition bench to essay a sincere and constructive role, participation and deliver on their responsibilities with utmost dedication.
He thanked the people of Sikkim for bringing his party back to power for a record fifth term and also for electing representatives from the Opposition party for a healthy democracy.
Mr Chamling urged members of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly to rise above personal interests and ego differences to deliver on their duties as public representatives.
