GANGTOK, 27 May: A
section of the traders of Lall Bazaar will be submitting a memorandum to the
Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police on Wednesday regarding what
they see as high handedness by the Gangtok Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor
Shakti Singh and councilor Udai Lama recently. A similar memorandum was submitted
to the Governor on Monday.
One of the traders, Lakpa Sherpa, speaking on behalf of the business
community of Lall Bazaar, today said, “Udai Lama is saying that we [business
community] are from outside and do not belong to Sikkim. If this is true then
he should prove that we are from outside and do not belong to Sikkim”. He
further said that all businesses across Sikkim will shut down if he fails to
prove such allegations.
“Shutting down of Lall Bazaar and MG Marg was just the beginning
but if they still keep tormenting us then we will shut down the whole of Sikkim”,
he stated.
There was some postering on this issue in Siliguri and if
vegetables and essential commodities stop coming from Siliguri then the
councilors in question should be held responsible, said Mr. Sherpa.
