GANGTOK, 25 May: A young Gangtok-based reporter, Tamanna Tamang has received the Ram Patro Memorial Award as the Most Promising Journalist for 2013-14 during an award function held on Saturday. Ms Tamang works for English dailies, The Statesman and Himalayan Mirror.
Kunal Rai was awarded with the Best Working Journalist in Sikkim Express & Himali Bela Award for 2013-14 while a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Sikkim Express staff member, Rabina Thapa.
The award function, which was chaired by CD Rai, had Kathmandu-based Kantipur daily newspaper’s Editor, Sudhir Sharma as the chief guest and HoD of Nepali Department, Sikkim University, Kavita Lama as guest of honour.
While congratulating the awardees, Mr Sharma appreciated the efforts in instituting this award to encourage young journalists in the state to work harder and to be more responsible. Ms Lama spoke on Nepali language and journalism. She also congratulated the awardees and encouraged journalists to be more responsible towards the society and work harder.
The function was also addressed by Sikkim Express editor, Amit Patro, Rupesh Sharma and CD Rai.
