Samay Dainik driver assaulted, vehicle vandalised

GANGTOK, 30 May: A vehicle belonging to Nepali daily Samay Dainik published from Gangtok which was on its way to Siliguri was attacked near 27th Mile early this morning.
The vehicle, it is informed, was on its way to Siliguri with a load of newspapers. At 27th Mile under Kalimpong sub-division in West Bengal, the driver, Bigendra Lama, was assaulted by a group of truck drivers.
It is learnt that near 27th Mile, one truck had broken down and its load was being transferred to a second one. This had obstructed the road and an altercation ensued wherein the drivers of the two trucks along with some others assaulted Bigendra and vandalized the vehicle.
The accused truck drivers - Krishna Gurung [SK 09D0303] and Damber Rai [SK 04D0576] have been arrested by Rambi Police. The driver Bigendra has sustained injuries on his legs and face.

The Press Club of Sikkim has strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate action against the culprits along with arrangements for the safety and security of media personnel.
