Red Fest concludes at PNGSSS


GANGTOK, 07 Dec: After travelling to ten other schools in East and West Districts, the Red Fest team of Sikkim State AIDS Control Society [SSACS] made its final stop at Palzor Namgyal Girls’ Senior Secondary School.

Engaging the student with fun-filled activities, the anchor of the show, Dewaker Basnet shared valuable information about HIV & AIDS and urged the students to keep an accommodating approach when it comes to helping People Living with HIV & AIDS, informs a press release. He also stressed on the importance of Voluntary Blood Donation.
In his address, Senior Blood Bank Officer, Dr. CM Sharma reiterated the importance of voluntary Blood donation, and also maintained that PNG students have come forward on numerous occasions to donate blood.
He also commended the initiative taken by Senior Instructor NSS, Jogen Moktan for propagating voluntary blood donation among school students. Speaking on the Red Fest, Dr. Sharma said that prevention is the only cure for HIV & AIDS and Red Fest is an excellent endeavor towards it.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by language teacher at PNGSSS, Shyam Pradhan. He said that the proportion of people affected with HIV in the State is quite high, and hence steps as the Red Fest will go a long way in normalizing the situation, and thus make Sikkim an AIDS-free State, the release mentions.
Later, the Vice-Principal Primary Section, Martha Rai handed over the prizes and certificates to the participating students.
The journey of ‘Positive Intervention’ started from Tashi Namgyal Academy on 18 Nov and has culminated into the final programme at Palzor Namgyal Girls’ Senior Secondary School here today.
‘Positive Intervention’ is one of the three major activities of the three-month long Red Fest, the other two being ‘Red Ribbon Super Band’ Contest and ‘Red Five’ football Tournaments. Several schools were left out in the endeavor due to the examination schedules of the schools. However, the schools which could not be covered in the ‘Positive Intervention’ would be taken up in these two mega events, the release mentions.
The last date for submission of registration forms is 25 Dec 2011. The forms should be submitted at the ICTCs at STNM Hospital Complex, ICTC District Hospitals, and ICTC Manipal Hospital, Tadong, the release adds.
